5 Winter Beauty Tips

Winter is coming, and with that we have cozy sweaters, handsome snowmen, and a never-ending buffet of delicious holiday meals. However, we all know there’s trade-off for all of this holiday merriment, which is that cold weather brings some of the most disastrous beauty fails including dry flaky skin, and staticky hair. I’ve put together my itchy skin, peeling face, static, winter survival guide so you can look and feel your best all season long. Here are my 5 winter beauty tips:

Dry Winter Skin

Cold weather is incredibly rude to my sensitive skin, and I often end up with numerous dry patches and itchy spots. One of my favorite remedies for dry skin is an oatmeal bath. Oatmeal is rich in protein, which protects skin from water-loss and helps maintain moisture. It also acts as an anti-inflammatory for itchy, inflamed skin.

Winter Beauty Tip – How To: Fill your tub up with warm water and add a cup of plain oatmeal and several drops of lavender oil. Throw some cucumbers on your eyes and relax! Your skin will thank you.

Frizzy/Staticky Hair

Yay cold weather! Boo staticky, unmanageable mane. Without fail, every winter, my hair turns into a science experiment. Heaven forbid I wear a chiffon shirt and hear snapping static clicks every time I move. My top two remedies (which I use together) are large amounts of Argan Oil, and dryer sheets.

Steps for this Winter Beauty Tip:

Step 1: Rub a dime-sized amount between your palms and run through wet hair before you blow dry.

Step 2: Post blow dry, run a dryer sheet over your hair. Voila! No static for the rest of the day.

Bonus Tip: Pack spare dryer-sheets in your purse for static emergencies. They also work on clothes.

Cracked, Rough Feet

You can prevent rough feet from starting by using a pumice stone once a week to gently scrape away dead skin cells. Another trick I like to use involves an intense moisturizing session.

Winter Beauty Tip – How To: Before bed, apply a thick coat of moisturizing cream and Aquaphor to your feet. Put on a pair of cotton socks over the moisturizer and sleep in them. Due to the heat of the socks, your feet will absorb most of the moisture and start to feel a whole lot smoother.

Flaky Facial Skin

No one likes dry skin, ESPECIALLY when it’s on your face. It’s impossible to apply foundation or feel confident with a peeling situation. Luckily I found a natural, home remedy scrub that actually works.

Winter Beauty Tip – How To: Cleanse and dry your face. Mix 1 teaspoon of brown sugar with 2 to 5 drops of coconut oil and gently scrub onto your face for about two minutes. Rise with warm water and pat dry with a towel.

Don’t Skip The SPF

Just because the weather is cooler doesn’t mean we should neglect the everlasting power of the sun, especially if you’re going to be in areas with snow and it’s sun-reflecting properties.

Winter Beauty Tip: Be sure to wear a moisturizer with at least SPF30 daily.
