8 Workouts That Don’t Feel Like Workouts

Sometimes life gets hard and the prospect of working out makes you want to just put on comfy clothes, crawl into a ball, ignore the world, and have a Netflix party in your bed. I’ve done this so many times that I most recently completed all 8 seasons of the classic 90’s hit tv show “Charmed” within one week and One Tree Hill the week before. That’s right, I chose witches and Chad Michael Murray over exercising. I mean I would probably choose Chad Michael Murray over a sip of water after walking 10 miles in the middle of the desert with no shoes but that’s beside the point. The point is, it got me to thinking about all the other fun things I could be doing to get some exercise in without actually going to the gym on those days when I just can’t even. Now, I’m delighted to share my favorites workouts that don’t feel like workouts with you!

1. Shopping

The more you buy, the more you carry. Think of it as an investment for your health. Lifting piles of clothes from the racks to the dressing rooms to the register is hard work. For a little extra “resistance” throw in some coats and jackets. Fall is almost here anyway, and let’s face it, you NEED all of those things.

2. Long Romantic Walks On The Beach

Grab Chad Michael Murray for a romantic sunset stroll at the beach. The sand will give you some resistance to help tone up your legs and butt. Dry sand will be more of a challenge if you’re into that sort of thing.

3. Swimming

I’m not talking about swimming laps, cause I know that feels like a workout. I’m talking about taking a running leap and cannonballing into the pool. Grab some friends and challenge them to a cannonball contest. You’ll be having so much fun you won’t even realize that you’re actually burning intense calories by running, jumping, swimming to the side, and pushing yourself out of the water.

4. Getting Frisky…

I think this one explains itself *insert winky face emoji*

5. Dancing

This one calls for a girl’s night out or a good old-fashioned dance party! Wrangle up your favorites and head to the nearest place that has decent music and a dance floor (this can even mean your living room) and dance the night away. Another option, which is something I try and do every morning, is to turn on your favorite song right when you wake up and dance the morning sadness away. I promise the rest of your day will thank you for it. My morning dance party song of the week is “Whistle (While You Work It) by Katy Tiz.

6. Riding A Bike

When was the last time you rode your bike just for fun? Remember when you were a kid and you couldn’t wait to zip around the neighborhood in your bike and feel the wind in your hair? Newsflash- it’s still incredibly fun. Dust off your bike, pump some air in the tires, and take it for a spin.

7. Head To A Theme Park

Theme parks are great for getting some exercise in while having a blast at the same time. Chances are, you’re burning calories and toning up while walking, standing in line, or running to the next ride.

8. Hiking

I love hiking, and by hiking I mean walking along a nature trail in the shade of some gorgeous mountain trees. Flat or inclined, hikes are great for toning up and getting some cardio in. Wear some cute gear, grab a couple of friends, and take some epic photos from the top of a mountain. If nothing else, it will be worth it for the new Instagram pic.
